Luxembourg City Walking Tour: Old Town, Corniche and Grund
Luxembourg City is small enough to cross on foot, and its old quarters and fortifications are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This guide follows a simple walking route through the old town, along the Corniche and down into the Grund.

The old town (Ville Haute)
The upper old town is the centre of the city. Place Guillaume II, known locally as the Knuedler, sits in the middle, and the Grand Ducal Palace is a short walk away. The streets here are easy to walk and calmer early in the day.
Chemin de la Corniche
The Chemin de la Corniche is a promenade built along the old ramparts. It looks over the Alzette valley and the lower town, and it is often called the most beautiful balcony in Europe.
Down into the Grund
From the Corniche you can walk down to the Grund, the lower town in the Alzette valley. It is a quiet riverside district with a very different feel from the upper town.
Bock Casemates and the Pétrusse valley
The Bock Casemates are a network of defensive tunnels cut into the rock below the old town. The Pétrusse valley, with its parks and paths, is another good place to walk away from the main streets.
Practical tips
Wear comfortable shoes. The old town sits on a rock above the valleys, so the route has steps and slopes.
Check the opening times of the Bock Casemates before you go, as they can change with the season.
